For about a year or two now, I’ve had this idea lingering in the back of my mind. when I rest my head on the pillow, I experience an alternate universe. I live through years in a matter of minutes, and each time its a different universe with a different outcome. I’ve been through a timeline where my business got listed on the NASDAQ, another where I had to fight everyday to liberate my business from financial woes, and even a timeline where I was betrayed and kicked out of my own company.
I dream of a universe where I create an extension of myself to contribute to civilization, a world where all my ideas are translated into some form of art or technology.
A life where I can be free.
One of the interesting observations I made in my field was the concerning security posture of African organizations. Whether they were public or private, these organization's exposed infrastructure ( e.g :websites, mail servers, firewalls) revealed security flaws evident from afar. It was at this moment that I recognized a way I could be of service to humanity, I can help secure africa!
So how did I start?
- The first thing to do is always to google. I searched for answers to any question I could think of : what’s the procedure to start a business? How much does it cost? What metrics should I use to determine how good my idea is? …
- The second thing I did was to become more knowledgeable about entrepreneurship. In order to do that I took the following steps:
I read the following books: The 100 $ startup by Chris Guillebeau, How to Build a Billion Dollar App by Berkowski, Zero to one by peter thiel,One Million Followers, Hacking Growth, traffic secrets,
I also registered on HelpBnk which is kind of social network for entrepreneurs and joined Y Combinator.
Additionally, I watched numerous YouTube videos and TED talks during this period, far more than I could mention here.
- Step 3 involved reaching out to my entourage and seeking wisdom from individuals who have already been down this path. I identified three people with relevant experience. A friend who majored in business and had successfully started a services company, another who is one of the founders and CTO of a major Moroccan cybersecurity firm, and finally, an acquaintance who has been a successful autoentrepreneur for almost 30 years. I initially contacted the latter and discussed the various uncertainties I had. He eventually referred me to his accountant, whom whom I plan to consult with to better structure my business.
That concludes this article. in the next episode, I will delve into the answers to the various questions I had, provide brief summaries of the books I read, and update you on my interactions with the other two individuals in my network.
Peace out ✌️
